RZV Fork Stanchions

#1 Post by Dexter » Thu Feb 01, 2018 10:10 pm

My (bike's) fork stanchions are getting on a bit and the seals are leaking. Any advice on getting these re-chromed or replaced (in the U.K.)? There are more holes, grooves etc than the RD ones.........

Welcome mate.

I can recommend this chap for rechroming anyway. I think he offers a discount if your a VJMC member.

Great suggestion, thanks. I like them....proper factory. They couldn't help with springs though, and i can't find any for an RZV. (only RD ones which are different) What have you other RZV owners done?

Blimey..... not again please!
I read this (epic!) thread on Friday - weekends aren't what they used to be- and that's how I gathered the RZV springs have a different spec. Around page 5 Mr RZmad decides to re-use his old springs so I'm none the wiser about how to source some replacements. On the plus side the pictures from the RZV manual have magically re-appeared, so if that was you many thanks.

hi dexter found this post by myself years ago might give food for thought still running this now reagards bill
hagon fork springs 540mm fitted without spacer a real nightmare to compress and fit fork caps so no good as only 5mm of static sag ,so i measured rzv500r standard spring length 441mm + 39mm spacer total length 480mm , with a extra 20mm spacer + 39mm spacer fitted to standard spring ,static sag was spot on for 30-35mm
so armed with this cut down hagon progressive springs down to 500mm in length from the top end of the springs and fitted using top washers and no spacers as the length is taken up by extra length of the hagon springs.
Result + static sag of 30mm bounce up and down on bike no movement from the front but pull front brake lever and hold and do the same and you get nice and progressive movement so as bike is on the move it will more compliant as the front will be loaded at the front once on the move i'm 14.5 pie retentive stone in weight this has been good mod as i've read previous posts on fork springs any thats the story so far regards bill

Hi Bill, thanks for the info, the stanchions are off to Philpots for re-chroming, and I've ordered some XJ600 springs as recommended by a few other members -

They seemed very pleased with the results and it sounds straightforward.....we'll see.
