Yamaha YZF750 Swing Arm

#1 Post by william2rcc » Wed Dec 06, 2017 12:17 pm

Hello! My RZV500R decided to upgrade the rear swing, I read here know that YZF750 is the choose, so I purchase a YZF750 swing arm and modify by NK Racing, the chain spacing is self made (not NK made), today my Moto shop got to work, found that the swing arm upper would hit the rear sub-frame, would I get enough travel of the swing arm in bike? I'm use 17/180 wheel/tyre.

1st if all why not contact Nigel directly and discuss this issue?

Without viewing it in person, its hard for me to offer a opinion, In addition I'm frankly not familiar with the RZ500 geometry.

But I cannot imagine how it would rise far enough to hit the subframe, especially
1.) (under weighted load) that's w 'rider, shock and wheel installed".

2.) I can't Imagine N.K. modifying this without a jig / RZ500 frame.

My 1st thoughts,(and I could be wrong) are the shop installing the swingarm have no idea what they are doing?
If that proves true and is the case..DO NOT have them do anymore work on your machine. :smt018

I just cannot imagine how the two assemblies are interfering with each other. But your photo does show that :smt017

My advice is to ask N.K. 1st.

That's not the sub-frame. The sub-frame is visible above the contact point.

Is it hitting the frame with the shock installed?

I think it's actually hitting a bracket for the battery box.

A picture from the side showing the swingarm angle might be more helpful.

From looking at the first picture it looks like the upper bridge work on the swingarm is hitting the bracket where the rear brake light switch goes.
Not a big problem, just have Nigel re-locate the bracket, not sure but the rearsets Nigel makes for the RZ's may have a place for the switch to mount
to.

I should add, with the swingarm hooked up to the linkage the arm shouldn't hit the bracket, but for piece of
mind you could ask Nigel to move it.
