Modified Stock Swingarm

#1 Post by silverstrom » Wed Oct 25, 2017 4:29 pm

I was reading George Nolan's naked RZ500 restoration article in the Out Front section of the forum. George modified the stock swing arm and adding bracing. The attached photo shows George's work.

I am curious as to what other members have to modify the stock swing arm. If you have modified yours, or have seen stock modified swing arms, please post photos.

I like the idea and am considering it for my next project. Anything you can offer on the subject would be appreciated.

Use a better welder than George.

Great idea, but could be done a lot better.

I noticed that and do get your point, but if I could weld to that quality myself I wouldn't worry about having someone else do it. I'd be quite happy with an untidy weld just to know that it was my own work. I can't weld so I'd be forced to pay someone to do it and at that point I'd definitely be wanting the best quality possible.

I saw that earlier Ron. Curious looking modification. Ridiculous price.

It would be neat to design what you want and have some pieces machined then welded onto the stock swingarm.
Instead of making one from scratch.

It would. All it takes is time and money.

John,

No, I bought a 500 project and the swinger was already modified. The welds were decent but look much better polished. This wouldn't be a difficult mod to make either. I've got a 180/55 R17 tire in it and it's plenty of clearance.
