Anyone blanked off the anti dive units

#1 Post by Kev Rev » Sat May 06, 2017 4:25 pm

Has anyone removed the anti dive units
And replaced them with the blanked off plates that
are available?
Does it make much difference?

Yes...I blanked mine off, didnt do many miles with them as standard to be honest but during the process the forks where rebuilt with fresh oil etc and braided lines fitted, end result being the front end is very nice in every respect and the brakes are very good for the era of the bike.

Anti-dive was a fad of that era. RZ500, RG500, NS400R, etc. It didn't work well on any of them and soon died out. Ditching it in favour of blanking/bypass plates won't change the way the bike feels, but will get rid of unnecessary hardware. Probably best to use the proper part that will allow fluid flow http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RZ500-billet-alu ... jb&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm using these on my project bike.

I remember it was also on all the Kawasaki superbikes. I read a funny article about that some time ago.

When launched, Kawasaki engineers were convinced that all pilots would race with the anti-dive.
Very rapidly all pilots said it was useless and they were loosing time on track, so when wanted to remove it.
Too late, this anti-dive unit was one of big features in the marketing strategy, so it was not possible to remove it from the race bikes...

They finally installed fake wooden anti-dive looking parts on the forks for the race bikes  .

Hi

When I rebuilt my forks and brakes I removed the link pipe from the caliper to the anti dive units. I left the anti dives attached to the forks and my brakes are now very good

I did same as Andy just removed link hoses and installed bolts without the holes. Brakes better and also found that when braking and turning in when bike fitted with working anti dive units bike would try and sit up but with anti dive disconnected this trait seemed to be reduced which is why racers were disconnecting the units back in the day.

In order to keep the looks as close as possible to original, I kept the anti-dive units and the link hoses but used bolts without hole on the anti-dive units, such that they were disabled. Works fine for me

Hi Wolfgang.
I'd also like to replace the fake link hoses and I'm desperately looking for banjo bolts without holes !
Where did you find yours ?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I just had the hole of normal banjo bolts closed by welding.

If the RZD500 has the same thread than my 350 it should be M10x1.25.
Luckily thats the same size all other M10 bolts on the chassis have (like on the caliper for example)

Someone has suggested soldering the top two
Holes in the banjo to close off the anti dives
Anyone done this? Replacing the banjo with
A bolt at the anti dive unit seems the best solution

Yes, I did solder them with tin soldering.
Easy to do and effective at no cost while keeping original look.
And reversible if needed.
