R6 Clip-ons?

#1 Post by BigGuy » Tue Feb 07, 2017 12:55 am

Hi all, just looking for some of your input/experience. I am in the process of fitting 08' R6 forks, swingarm, wheels, ect.. to my RZV frame. I got a pretty good deal on the front end but it is without clip-ons, no big deal but I thought that if any particular aftermarket brand or type was better for this application I might as well get that? I'm guessing that I will need to mount them on the top side of the triple clamp?

Thanks

BTW, I don't know if this matters or not but I'm also using a Vortex upper triple clamp.

I suppose you could really use any clip-on you want and buy for your comfort http://www.fastfromthepast.com/clip-ons" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I have a set of late R6 forks on the 350 I'm building and wanted some clip ons with some height and angle adjustment, but without being too 'clunky'. The best options I found were Heli and Apex;

I haven't ordered any yet but am leaning towards Apex. I also have a Vortex upper triple, which is stepped to have the bars mounted on top, like the stock upper clamp but the Apex bars would lend themselves to mounting under the top clamp if you needed the extra length on the forks.

The 20 year old in me that used to ride this bike says I should go with these:

But the 40 year old says maybe the risers deserve some thought???

LOL. Exactly the same story as mine.. :)
I love the riser bars, They are only an inch up, But you are still low down in the fairing, They take a little of the pressure off the wrists

The 40 year old doesn't know it yet but he's gonna be 50 way sooner than he thinks....

Plan accordingly.

Russ is right.

I remember 40, and 50. It doesn't get better.

Hey Big guy,
I am in the same process, just with an 06 R6 parts lot but also RZV as opposed to RZ.

I just finished with the newly machine steering stem set up and now moving onto the rear swinger - are you doing this work yourself?

Cheers

Hi Rufus, I started to fit my own Swingarm but after some reading and speaking with RGVSTEVE it just made more sence to send it to him. I'm sure if he didn't want to take it on I could have fumbled through the process buy why? Steve has done MANY of these and really has the process down pat. His prices are quite fair and he's a great guy to deal with. While he's is doing that he also agreed to make me up one of his "under the seat" oil tanks. This allows me to spend the very small amount of time I have on other aspects of this project.

Yeah agree 100% Steve is the man.
Unfortunately I am so far away and with a currency that makes anything pricey, its not an option for me.
I had heard that he was stopping this work or read it somewhere
