They also tapped out all the threaded holes afterwards to make sure I have clean threads. I had a big smile on my face when assembling it today. Have a look under engines. The same company did my engine.
That powder coating on the foot rest hangers looks great! What did you do with the rubber damper things that the lower pipes hang from? From what I understand the coating process requires the parts to be totally stripped? Did you manage to get tthem out without wrecking them? Did you replace them? I ask because I just bead blasted mine and was wondering if there was a better option than the paint?
Thanks

I would replace them anyway, they are still available (~20€/pc) and the rubber isn`t getting better after 30 years.
If you don`t want to destroy the old parts simply use a pipe which fits to the outer diameter of the part to get the force into the steel ring and not into the rubber.
As far as I remember I found a hexagon socket with correct diameter - today I would use my small lathe.

Sweet! I never would have guessed they were still available, funny the things you can and cannot get? Thanks for the tip on the orientation also, makes sense.

I have successfully pressed those dampers out and then back in (in the correct orientation no less
) after powder coat.
Good luck.

Anyone suggest a finish on the swinging arm? Powder coat as well, so it matches the foot rest hangers and frame?

20 minutes ago I had a swingarm in my hands and asked myself that same question. Power coat is certainly more durable, but I'm wondering if it will cover the indexing marks for the chain adjusters (even though they are mostly useless).
Aren't the swingarms anodised from Yamaha and not painted?

The swingarms are anodised silver - powdercoat just doesn't look right - I think vapour blasted, satin polished, brushed finished then two pack matt clear coat might be the best finish available - however I'm about to try and get my swingarm vapour blasted - satin polished, brush finished then anodised to see how it comes out.
I'll record the results to show how it goes.
Cheers

Looking forward to seeing that Paul. It has been a concern here since I decide to do the project.
I've heard that no one has had any success yet at matching the original anodizing.

I've decided to take the risk and find out what is possible - might take quite a few weeks to sort out though.

I believe the restorer of the bike in this issue of PS magazine vapour blasted the swingarm to get back that original finish.

So I've cleaned up my swinging arm now and it looks pretty good. I am going to get it vapour blasted first and then make a decision on whether to anodise it or brush it and clear coat it. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I'm looking to try to keep it looking original as much as possible
