Please keep me informed if you manage to get the ride height adjust. The Austrian Importer contacted WILBERS 2 years ago and they said they could not offer it for this model.

Best regards

Wolfgang

5 buyers will get us an additional discount. But we do need 5.

The Oktoberfest discount is 10%, with 5 buyers we will get an additional 5%.

There is a bit of concerning news. That is it appears that wolfgangh was right, ride height is not available on the 640. The rep is sending an email to the manufacturer to verify this and to verify that ride height is available 641. Hopefully he will get back to me tomorrow.

Anybody else want to get in on this?

I'm not 100% sure we will net 5 buyers out of the current interested parties.

I will send an email with more details to the 5 we have now.

Thanks,
Ken

I'm interested in the group buy, but the Wilbers 640 is an EMULSION TYPE shock.

An emulsion shock should NOT be mounted horizontally.

Not sure about the 641 shock.

Need to find out for sure. And fast!

I see that the Wilbers 641 type shock has a remote reservior.

I think the reservoir separates the oil from the gas - so maybe it's okay to mount it horizontally.

Not sure.

How come the OEM shock doesn't have a reservoir?

I was wondering about that on the 640, but Wilbers seems OK with the horizontal mounting. With the remote reservoir the gas is all in the remote and presumably separated from the oil with a floating piston. I ordered the 641.

No surprise there!

On this webpage, there is a diagram "DeCarbon Internal Floating Piston". No reservoir, but the oil and gas are separated. This must be like the OEM shock. It also says that an emulsion type shock must be mounted vertically.

I have an Ohlins YA-415 (S46ER1) on my RZ350. This is an emulsion type shock. My Ohlins shock has a remote reservoir with compression damping (added when I purchased it). So - it's an emulsion shock with a reservoir - but, of course it's mounted vertically on the RZ.

What I meant was that if they didn't work in the RD500 Wilbers wouldn't list them. The world is way too connected, and a search would quickly show the issue. The performance of a shock that needs to be vertical to keep the nitrogen out of the oil would be complete rubbish in our case. Unless nobody has actually tried one :-(
That said, once you add a remote reservoir the shock orientation doesn't matter anymore, since all the nitrogen has to stay in the reservoir. It's not really an emulsion type shock anymore.

That's what's important - the reservoir shock can be mounted in any position.

I'm in for a type 641 with ride height adjustment, etc. Should be enough of us for the 5% discount. :smt004

Does anyone know the OEM shock length, eye to eye?

OEM shock length (out of bike fully extended) is 290mm center to center on the mounting bolts. Just measured an RZ and RZV shock. I ordered mine +/-5mm from stock.

Not sure what you mean.

You ordered a 290mm and the adjuster is 285mm to 295mm?
