What I have found is if you pull the lower away from the chrome upper tube with one hand, while undoing the allan bolt with the other hand, the bolt will undo and not spin. Give it a try if other stuff doesn't work. Don't put the aluminum lower tube in a vice ever. It will easily crush and distort the lower.
Instead use 2 small chunks of 2x4 with the center trenched out. Wrap them around the chrome tube.

success men!!!! found a real easy way to press the seals in using a piece of PVC pipe and my floor jack to press the fork/pipe up against the bottom of my work bench (using the old seal as the driver)... slick as snot lol!!!!

got'er all together and a qwik preliminary test rip reveals no leaks!!!!

Nice job.
How did you pry the old seals out? That's the hard part for me, without doing damage.
They are so dam tight.

colin, dunno about any damage but the old seals came out when I gave a qwik yank on the fork tubes
