Going to the UK would be a stretch for me to attend from the USA let alone bring my bike. Would love to visit but just not in the cards for me. NOW... I would vote for Birmingham, AL at the Barber track. Been to the Classic Event three years ago with the Gamma gathering and had a great time. Would love to see an RZ event there too. I will be going this year to the Vintage weekend at Barber and would definitely attend next year for this gathering. It is also somewhat centrally located for the USA. Let me know if I can help to get the attendance organized.

Thanks,
Tracy

Don't know the ratio of UK/Europe members to US members. Either way, depending upon interest, someone who has had experience in shipping vehicles overseas should look into a group discount. Lot cheaper to ship 30 bikes in one container, than one.

RE venue, whether UK or US, I suggest we would try to tie it to a MotoGP weekend. That way anyone who would travel overseas would get a two-fer and more people would may show-up. Does MotoGP do discounted group tickets?

I'm in! UK or US I have to travel but I can do it and get my bike shipped (because, of course, my bike will be finished by then...of course).
The idea of tying it to a GP round or similar really appeals to me and makes the expense more justifiable.

Hi all,

For fear of upsetting our US RD/RZ friends, my intention was to hold the event in the UK, so apologies if it means that you guys are unable to attend.

From the various responses on this thread I think the general concensus is that the Classic Motorcycle Festival at Donington Park in 2014 would be the best place to hold this event. It seems to fit in terms of being a motorcycle festival with a growing interest, it fits the era of the bikes and is relatively centrally placed (unless you're visiting from Scotland, NI or...er...further afield!). This isn't final though and it's an event for all of us; if there are other options they are still worth discussing.

A link to this year's event is here: http://www.donington-park.co.uk/events/ ... -festival/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I haven't been to this event before but am familiar with Donington so I will be going up to Donington this Saturday 10 August to get a feel for the place and see if it is the best venue for our event. I'll be thinking of possible options for our event for next year, ie location, wet weather contingency, access for us to display our bikes etc.

If you are going on Saturday and would like to meet up, please let me know and I will give you my mobile tel no.

I also hope to visit Bob Adams to say hello as he is the Circuit and Operations Manager and is aware of our plans.

Thankfully, the restore on my RD has finished, all bar a minor electrical problem and a tank respray, so I'm looking forward to showing it off next year. Like I said in earlier emails, all RDs/RZs of the 500 variety are welcome - the more the merrier. Mint or otherwise, standard or otherwise. It will be great to get as many together as possible!

The email account that I have set up specifically for this event is rd500lc-2014@hotmail.co.uk if you would llike to email off this forum.

Thanks!

Andy.

I've just read about this in Octobers Practical Sports Bike, I'm up for a day out and it would be nice to see another one in the flesh.

Hi all,

I've had an interesting day making progress on the 30th anniversary event.

I have been considering the Donington Classic Motorcycle Festival or the Mallory Festival of 1000 Bikes for our 'get together'; you can probably guess which one I now favour as Mallory Park have gone into administration and any event there next year is looking unlikely.

I've spoken to Bob Adams who is the Circuit and Ops Manager at Donington Park and he is well on board for our 30th anniversary event.

The dates of the Classic Motorcycle Festival are 8/9/10 August 2014 and it's this event that I suggest we get involved with. Some details will need to be organised in due course, ie where we will be situated etc but Bob mentioned that parade laps for us shouldn't be a problem. The sight of all of our RDs lined up on the grid at Donington will be an amazing sight, not to mention an ideal photographic opportunity for us all and for the magazines!

Practical Sportsbikes magazine very kindly inserted some info about our event in their November 2013 magazine and I now have about 15-20 people who have registered an interest. Not only that, but a living legend engine tuner (Stan Stephens) has also said that he is interested.

I'm using this forum thread and the email address rd500lc-2014@hotmail.co.uk for correspondence.

Practical Sportsbikes are writing a 30th anniversary article on the RD500LC for the January 2014 edition of their magazine, so I rang them today to say hello and spoke to Alan Seeley on the editorial team. I'm going to re-email all of the other bike magazines again shortly to keep reminding them of our event and will need to give MCN a ring.

So, all in all, progress has been made and I'll let you all know once I have any further info.

Andy! :smt023
