Good idea,i have some contacts at Yamaha UK and will give them a call.
How about having the 30th anniversary at Yamaha UK HQ at the old Brooklands circuit?
Yamaha Japan did a event for the 20th anniversary (see link)

It would be nice to display my pre-production bike for the 30th anniversary of the RD500/RZ500/RZV500R.

Re: RD/RZ500 30th Anniversary Event - 2014
Hi,
A quick update.
Firstly I have created a Hotmail account that I can use to coordinate any responses from people off-forum if required. My plan is to contact as many magazines as possible and ask them to put a line or two in their magazines to publicise a 30th anniversary to any RD/RZ500 (or bikes with that engine fitted) owners that would like to take part. The email address is:
RD500LC-2014@hotmail.co.uk
I have also emailed Mark George who is the webmaster and vice chairman of the Classic Racing Morotcycle Club. I believe that they were responsible for setting up the CRMC/Donington Classic Festival in August 2012, so I have asked if a gathering of RD/RZ500s could be incorporated into their Classic Weekend (possible parade laps/static displays etc).
I have said that nothing is set in concrete yet and that other options are available but it would be good to get some feedback.
If you know any RD/RZ500 owners that aren't on the forum, could you spread the word, using the email address above?
Steve (Jackson40) - wondered if you've been able to contact Yamaha HQ to see if they're interested?
In the meantime, please keep considering options and let's spread the word!
Cheers!

Re: RD/RZ500 30th Anniversary Event - 2014
I've just emailed all UK bike magazines and their editors where possible to ask them to insert a small comment in their magazines to raise awareness. It is along the lines of:
"Plans are underway for a one-off 30th anniversary event for RD/RZ500 owners (and owners of any bike with that engine fitted) in Summer 2014. If you would like to take part in what will be a truly memorable event, please register your interest with Andy Davis at RD500LC-2014@hotmail.co.uk"
So fingers crossed.
I will shortly be working abroad until mid June 13 so I'll let this 'cook' for a while and can attack it in earnest when I'm back. Depending upon the availability of internet access while I'm away, I'll continue to keep an eye on this.

Re: RD/RZ500 30th Anniversary Event - 2014
Hi all,
Am still away from the UK until about July.
I've received the following messages to the hotmail account that I set up for the event (RD500LC-2014@hotmail.co.uk).
It seems that there's interest and that Donington may be the chosen venue.
If you remember, I emailed the CRMC to see if they were up for it and received the following reply:
"Hi Andy,
Thanks for your email, which was mentioned at our committee meeting on Sunday.
I have forwarded your email on to the CRMC Donington event organisers and also Donington and they will be in touch if this can be considered, space permitting.
Thanks for your interest in the CRMC,
Kind regards,
Mark George
CRMC Vice Chairman
CRMC Webmaster
mark.george@crmc.co.uk"
This was quickly followed up from Bob Adams, Circuit and Operations Manager at Donington Park:
"Hi Andrew,
Good morning, I hope all is well?
Mark George has kindly passed on your enquiry about the 'Classic Motorcycle Festival' at Donington Park
Just a bit of background. We (or should I say me) are trying to put together various events under one umbrella to make a really good, cheap day or weekend out.
CRMC will provide the circuit racing, Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club will put on the Classic Bike Club Show in the exhibition centre (this event used to be at Newark). Grasstrack, trials and motor-x over the back of Macleans.
Classic Bike and Classic Racer magazine are on board. Also guests Murray Walker, Colin Seeley, Phil Read.........
The Ducati Symposium are taking over the inside of Redgate corner as an Italian Village, so why not an area for RD500 owners?
For 2013 what about a couple of bikes along on the weekend, and a bigger event in 2014?

Bye for now

This is looking good. Now that we've sewn the seed, it will give us something to build on for 2014. If anyone want to do anything for 2013, Bob's tel nos are Direct Line | 01332 819524 | Mobile | 07766748898.
Slowly but surely it seems to be coming together!
Internet permitting, I'll keep you all updated if there's any more news.
Cheers.
Andy.
