PV end cap 'helpers'

#1 Post by JonW » Sun Jan 20, 2019 8:36 am

The PO of my bike has fitted these adapted washers to help hold the PV end caps better to the cylinder.

I have two questions:

1, Is this normally an Issue with the 500?

2, If this is a problem, is this the best fix?

2 of mine had broken, that washer looks like its been on there a while so if yours havent (broken), id re-use them again for sure.

The holders are certainly pricey for what they are....

Are they broken Jon? I have a box full of broken caps here. It's quite common for the portion with the screw hole to break off.

If they aren't broken it seems like a crude solution, but if it works it's all good.

Did he cut a groove in the cylinder to accommodate the washer?

Yes they have been on the engine for years I would say. Ive not taken then off yet so dont know how many ive got that are intact. I'll have a look today.

Ive had 350 ones repaired by welding then up and creating a tab, but its not an exact science and I guess with the 500's being held only by one end they are prone to failure.

LOL, Is there a better solution to this problem, I'd be happy to hear it if there is.

Probably done a few years ago when the bike was just another cheap old bike . Untidy but look quite effective .

Hi , I've had a couple welded up and then filed them down.
Yambits also sell them https://yambits.co.uk/rz500-powervalve- ... 78995.html
Cheers Ron.

If you replace the cover don’t over tighten the bolt - use some loctite on the thread they are slightly prone to coming loose.

Cheers
Paul

I expect the Yambits ones are OEM, they sell quite a few OEM bits and these would cost too much to make/have made themselves.

Yes, exactly Jon. They are just the middleman.

If you need help with parts or want to check Yamaha Canada prices just drop me a line. As you know from the 350 forum, I've purchased cheaper parts here and forwarded to our friends in Australia.
