Advice for pulling cables prior to engine removal

#1 Post by hailwood1965 » Sat Dec 22, 2018 9:05 pm

Wow. 1984 RZ500. I've never seen so many cables in my life.

Anyone know how to get this junction apart for the chokes?

Suggestions on cable removal for the rest MUCH APPRECIATED. Youtube video: "next, remove carbs ... "

How do the carbs come off??!

That's the throttle cable junction box. It's not designed to come apart. Release the bottom end of the cables from the throttle wheels then release the carbs from the engine. They are held on with hose clamps as usual but with very long screws on them. You just have to look for them. The actual choke lever comes apart to release those cables.
Take lots of photos during the strip even if you think at the time it's not necessary. They really helps come rebuild time.

.
Some info on the choke cable...

This picture shows it (albeit, partially hidden) behind the carbs. It looks like a squid with 4 arms. The enricheners that screw into the other two missing carbs are in the clear bag.

And this picture shows it apart up by the actuator paddle. The paddle makes the block slide. The cables all insert into the block from the side.
