So, I wondered into the garage and stubbed my toe on a dust sheet. When I looked under the sheet I remembered that I was the proud owner (of 25 years) of an Rd500 that I'm 90% through restoring. Looking at my thread on here I see it's been 6 years since I did anything meaningful to the bike.
When I abandoned the project all that time ago I was having trouble with the carbs. I seem to remember that there was a walk through, hand holding, set your carbs up properly thread on here somewhere but I can't find it?
Carbs are off the bike and I built a jig/stand to hold them square on the bench, but I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help/pointers greatly appreciated.

Could somebody confirm something for me please.........
I've got my carbs mounted on the bench with a small header of fuel attached.
Before I mounted the carbs I set the float height as per the manual.
Now, using the hose on the drain valve method is showing that the fuel level is too high, it's roughly flush with the gasket face across all 4 carbs.
Am I correct in thinking that the critical measure is the actual fuel level? So rather than dismount the carbs, and measure each float individually I can tweak the tang with everything in situ?

What value did you use for the float level ? 21mm or 24mm ?
It should be 24mm.

Hi Paul,
It’s from the top of the float bowl casting where it joins the bottom of the carb body.
If you haven’t got the manual it’s well worth getting - there is quite a bit about setting up the carbs in it - the first figures for float height are wrong - the correct values are in the appendix - you often see these manuals on eBay - copies are around £20 ($25) and originals around £80 ($100)
