RZV500R Project -Running Lean on the Dyno

#1 Post by rd84 » Sat Nov 02, 2019 7:50 am

Hi,

My RZV500R Project engine has an unknown state of tune - standard RD500 reed blocks , standard inlets - TM28 flatslide Mikunis - soft foam filters - Zeeltronic CDI/YPVS - JL GP pipes

It’s making 100bhp at the back wheel with a very wide power band - it’s now on 280 jets but is running very lean and won’t respond to jetting changes.

Any ideas - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Cheers
Paul

Check that the needle jet/jet needle is not a limitation.
If yes, main jet won't have any effect.

A month ago it was still hot here. I'm running elephant ears with 3"x3" foam pod filters, jolly motos, ign advanced 3 or 4, tm28's with 25 pilot, O-0 needle jet with hood, 195 main jet. It was a little too smokey offensive around town. Crackels a lot like rich but feels good and revs right out to warp speed. I changed to N-8 needle jets and it helped like I wanted. I have been running no air bleeds for years, I forget why but I put the 1.8 it came with back in and went for a ride. Got to an open road to rev it up and it was like hitting a wall at 6500rpm in any gear. horribly rich. I went to 180 main jets and it helped, then went to 2.0 air bleeds and it was better still.
I think less restrictive airbox needs larger or no air bleeds. Whats in yours?

Thanks for the advice -I only know we’re up to 280 main jets - I’ll try and find out the other jetting details
