Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
Any creative ways to repair this or do I need to get a new carb body?

Re: Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
Its sort of hard prescribing a fix without a picture of the failure, but I'm assuming its the rectangular tab with the V in it shown in this picture , about halfway down on the far right.
Where did it snap? Is there any of the tab remaining on the carb body or is it broken off flush? It does see a lot of impact if the throttle is allowed to snap shut.
Here is a stripped down picture with the tab basically in the middle of the image;
It's questionable whether epoxy would even work on this with the impact involved. If there is some portion of the tab remaining on the carb body, perhaps it would work with some backing plates added, or better yet, a full tight-fitting rectangular tube to wrap it across the fracture.
Maybe those guys savvy with welding can speak up about those methods of repair.

Hi thanks for that. Yes it's the square tab. It has probably half the thread still attached. Will post a photo when I can
Re: Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
You may look for a laser welder as they have repaired the float hanger mounts in the past. If that fails let me know I may have a carb body depending on which one it is.

My pleasure. I will wait to see the photo, but it sounds like a budget-minded fix is possible if you do not wish to buy a new carb body or can't find someone to weld it.

Can't seem to post photos on here but yes it's the r/h side carb that connects to throttle.

I can see it and it is what I envisioned. Do you still have the little piece that snapped off?

Re: Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
I don't think just gluing the broken piece back on is going to last very long so here is my suggestion for an inexpensive repair that will look pretty clean if done with care. It assumes you have some mechanical skills, basic tools, and a threading tap that matches the idle screw. Select glue (epoxy) that is compatible with aluminum.
1. Cut a small piece of aluminum (green color in picture) matching the profile of idle screw tab. Maybe 2 or 3mm thick.
2. Add proper size "tap drill" hole in green piece for threading later.
3. Clean and "rough up" mating surfaces for gluing with sandpaper. Glue broken blue tip and new green piece onto tab and allow to cure. Holes should be aligned.
4. Add thread to green piece. Insert tap through original blue tab first to clear out any glue and continue carefully through green piece to cut new threads into it. remove any access glue. It should now be ready to use.
5. Optional: For even better support, include a thin jam nut to transmit even more shock load to unbroken blue tab portion.
Good luck!

That's great, thanks for taking the time to respond in such detail. I'll see what my mechanic friend can do.

It's great to be able to repair parts, but sometimes you need to cut your losses and replace the part. This is one of those times. Get a replacement carb. Repairing that one is more trouble than it's worth and is sure to end in frustration.
Re: Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
I agree. Although welding on a new tab would work fine, it just doesn't seem cost effective.silverstrom wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2019 6:16 pm It's great to be able to repair parts, but sometimes you need to cut your losses and replace the part. Re: Carb idle screw hanger(?) snapped
We could repair that for you depending on where you are located but as others have said probably more cost effective to pick up another carb body.
If only there was more free time.

Thanks all. New carb body ordered. Will save it as a spare
