Cylinder boring services

#1 Post by Bengt Weil » Tue Nov 21, 2017 10:19 pm

I live in the Ventura County area (So. Cal) and am looking for someone to perform cylinder bore services - a first over, hone and chamfer to fit oem Yamaha first over pistons. Does anyone in the So Cal area have a recommendation or personal experience for this work?

Looking at the wear pattern on the original upper pistons, it looks like relieving the intake bridge on the upper cylinders slightly may also be a good idea - anyone noticed abnormal wear from the intake bridge?

Thanks for any and all feedback!

I will call them both and see what they can offer - thanks for the suggestions.

UPDATE: Gary @ Spec II seemed to be beyond reproach... Wasn't a happy camper on this Monday morning (hopefully he was just having a bad day and treats his prospective customers with a better phone demeanor than he presented - wow!).

Don't stress the wear on the upper pistons .
Needs rebore as you've about to undertake .
Bridge relief is an exhaust port thing .
Goddam ... you have these in Trumpland ??

Yeah, seems that Gary has a pretty high opinion of himself. LA Sleeve it is... Not too far away from me and a pleasant, professional attitude over the phone. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Happy Holidays to everyone!

The LA Sleeve experience was good - everything looks great and as I expected. I will use them in the future if I have any more iron sleeves that need re-boring.

Now, I need to find the time to start the re-assembly process, checking that the upper and lower cranks are at TDC at the same time, then checking the squish and reworking the heads as necessary.
