Electric Water Pump & Electric Fuel Pump

#1 Post by RC45 » Sun Sep 17, 2017 11:25 pm

Anyone running higher HP, fanless big radiator, big carb tuned RZ500 with electric water pump and fuel pump?

Wolfgang, Bas, Speed Freak?

Anyone else?

Yes Sir, I do run 2 electric water pumps but no fuel pump. I have higher HP, bigger carbs (34mm) and fanless radiators.

Wolfgang, did you seal off the drive shaft hole for the mechanical water pump?

Why did you end up using 2 electric pumps? Which pumps did you end up using?

I am looking at the Davies Craig pump.

Hi,
I am not sure which drive shaft hole you are talking about - there is no real hole. I only put a plug instead of the mechanical water pump into the side cover.

I am using 2 independant small water pumps, one for each cylinder bank and each one independantly controlled by an electric water pump controller which allows to linearly regulate pump speed depending on coolant temp. I also have a switch on the left handlebar to switch the pumps to full output and override the pump controller.
The pumps are the same as the small Davies Craig pump with 13l/min output, but I bought them on ebay since they are used in many german cars for the A/C system.

As a result of the 2 independant cooling circuits, all 4 cylinders run perfectly matched temperatures (I have temp gauges for all 4). I dont need to jet the upper cylinders different from the lowers, and operating temps remains a perfect 65°C in most use cases.

Great info - thanks.

It was 3am after a long day - for some crazy reason I was imagining the mechanical water pump housing without the impeller installed and needing to plug/seal the impeller shaft hole :)

Hi Wolfgangh, any chance to share the type of controller you are using, as Craig Davies' electronic pump controller is apparently not suitable for these boost pumps as the PWM voltage at 6V is too low, as the pumps operating voltage starts at 9V.....
I need a controller as I have bought a 23 L/min pump, but want 'smart' control, not just an on/off switch.
Thanks. :???:
