I'm trying to make sense of those posts but I want to say those webs look terrible as does the rods, I heard yambits sold webs and rod kits and they looked bad I cannot believe that is one of my cranks, I'm hoping for the new sample to arrive shortly

Thanks, Frank

Just get you existing cranks rebuilt for half the price.
Retail to retail Gus' cranks are about $200.00 cheaper than a full rebuild using all new rods, bearings and washer. Fact is you can't buy OEM rods either so you're going to use the same rods Gus is using from the aftermarket folks.

The early version of these aftermarket rods did have issue with being fat just above the bigend and that could lead to rubbing on the case. Brian Turfrey brought it to my attention about 5 years ago. I personally never had one that touched when I assembled a motor with Gus' cranks nor with Yambit's rods. I did however notify Yambits about the issue and since then I inspect each rod that I get against the OEM one to make sure it's releaved in that area. Only had a few that weren't since bringing it up to them and those I relieve myself with a belt sander.

What are the specs for your cranks Gus? Are they each checked for free play and runout?

I checked alot of them, my buddy used that company long before I did, and it's amazing from I to the other the difference between them all, some could not tell you a press fit tolerance, mine dealt in tonage, the engineer could tell how much tonage press would be required on a helical crank drive compared to straight cut, they knew how much clearance was required for adequate oil, I learned quite a bit, balance factor too, they assured me .002 or less run out and I believe .024 clearance on the rods, they were all good I watched them (actually a girl) assemble a twin crank in 30 seconds a guy with a copper hammer made small adjustments when needed, it was cool

Perhaps you mean .02 mm for run out. Yamaha crank is .03 mm maximum (0.0012 inches)

Yamaha big end side clearance is 0.25 -0.75 mm (0.0098 - 0.0295 inches)

Yamaha small end lateral play is 0.4 mm - 0.6 mm (0.0157 - 0.0236 inches)

If your people are assembling to those specs your crank should last just as long as Yamaha's cranks, if not longer.

What bearings are you using? KOYO, SKF?

I forget who they are IPC I think, tried to use Koyo and they said nope only Yamaha is allowed those bearings. I had all the specs on the bearings and have no clue where I put that stuff.

That is simply untrue and sounds more than a little strange Gus.

Yambits sell Koyo and I have them on cranks here https://yambits.co.uk/rz500-crank-beari ... ole8uo4p13" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Koyo are widely available http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Crank-Bearing-L- ... 27&vxp=mtr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

IPC are made in India

When you buy hundreds at a time it's a proprietary, you can not use my tooling it's mine, I requested Koyo as I wanted zero issues and they said no way, I could have bought them from Koyo like Yambits for 4 times the price but I didn't want a $1000.00 crankshaft like the cost through Yamaha

The cost is not high Gus. It's $95 per crank if I buy 4 Koyo bearings from Yambits. Buy in bulk and lower that cost. Subtract what you paid for the Indian bearings and the Koyo cost is even cheaper. No one is going to complain about paying $75 more per crank knowing they are getting top quality bearings. Quality over cost, any day.

You need to get your facts straight I don't deal in India or China, now go find someone who's run my cranks and had a failure. The bearings are ITP.

At $95.00 per crank with a minimum qty. of 400 that's $38,000.00 just for bearings 1000 minimum for wrist pin another $5,000.00 now we need to get 1000 finished rods at $40.00 is $40,000 now lets buy 1000 lambryth seals and now we need the forgings, I do own the tooling so that $14,000.00 I saved this time, get everything ground assembled and shipped, can't forget to insure it, need to be bonded to get it into the country when it's all said and done its not $95.00 it's a crap ton more than that, I believe my cranks are pretty damn good but if you wanna pull 100,000.00 out of your bank I'll let you do it next time. I took every precaution to make sure nothing happened and no one contacted me saying hey my crank took a shit, but who knows
