JL pipes question

#1 Post by waldrtw » Wed Dec 21, 2016 12:24 pm

I just ordered a set of JL pipes from fast from the past. The question I have is that I have seen pics on the net with RZ500's with these pipes and the two under the seat stick way out the back (which I like this look). The ones on Fastfromthepast website does not show that they stick out the back. How do you order the pipes for this look? Is it just to put the longer cans on the two under the seat to match the ones that are not under the seat?

Thanks for any info.
Tim

JL ships these pipes with shorter upper silencers which dont stick out. You can specify longer silencers when you place the order.

Thanks!! I have JL pipes on my RZ350 so I may put the short ones on the RZ350 and the long ones from RZ onto the RZ500 under seat pipes.

Any recommendation on What type of RTV to use to keep them from leaking at the flange. My RZ350 blows out like crazy and it has stained the SS pipes (have not found anything to clean it yet that works). Read on the forum to use RTV but not sure what kind.

I use DIRKO HT with good results, but not easy to avoid leaking 100%

This is the best high temp sealant I've used.

Check out the high temp o-ring on the new Toomey silencers.

I'm going to try to retrofit o-rings into all my different silencers.

We are talking about the leaks between cylinder flange and header, they are the much bigger problem. I never had issues with the silencers leaking

Hi.
Sorry for my dumb question, but why don't pipe makers use the same mounting system as genuine pipes ?
I can't see any reason.

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I use that high temp sealant on the cylinder flanges as well.

Has done a good job sealing my RZ350 flanges/pipes.

Hello all;
Great to be finally beginning the restoration of my RZ500RN that I bought new in 1985. I was originally member number 44, but let my membership lapse. I have been in touch with Bill Wilson, and my stage two engine restoration/modification is soon to begin. Does anyone have any thoughts on the benefits of Moto Jolly pipes over the Lomas pipes? Bill recommends the Jollys, but the difference in price has me wondering. any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, guys.
Bob.
