I have a set of these from my 3MA. I was thinking of using them on the 500 for tucked upper pipes during bodywork test fittings and possibly running them at a later stage.

Saves having to have the existing JM's hacked up just as a styling excercise.

I await the opinions of the greater RZ500 community with baited breath.

:)
I am not a specialist in pipes, but 3MA cylinders are totally different in comparison to RZ500 cylinders (ports, reeds, carbs), so they might not work properly.

geosot is right.

3MA cylinder portmaps are very ( very ) different than RZ/RD 500 stock cylinders.

3MA portmaps I think have also boost ports on the exhaust port, the area and height is also more agressive on the 3MA.
The RD/RZ 500 stock portmap is even worse than an Yamaha DTR 125 stock cylinder portmap ( 27 hp stock ).

Another detail, the 3MA reed admission is HUGE, you can fit VFORCE 2 reeds from an YAMAHA YZ 250 there, the stock RD / RZ 500 reeds, are THE SAME as the YAMAHA TZR 50 ones .. ;)

The 3MA has transfer, exhaust timings and exhaust length for +11500rpm, the stock 500 has difficulty to pass 10 000 - 10 500rpm ..

You could only fit the 3MA pipes, if you replicate the cylinders, admission and modify the electronics to allow making extra revs with power increasing.

Being an RZ500 n00b is both fascinating for me and irritating to the old timers at the same time :)
It is not irritating, this is a forum to help those who possess the 500 . :)

For those who have some deep knowledge on 2-Stroke engines & tuning, your question is pertinent, because even if the cylinders and pipes are very different, there are some cases where pipes from different models could be adapted to the RD 500 cylinders ..

Of course is not the case with the 3MA pipes on the RD 500 cylinders.

For example, I'm building at the moment a Suzuki RG 500 Gamma, and I'm going to fit modified Jollymoto pipes ( Yamaha RD 500 model ) into it .. but I know how the Suzuki cylinders are and I know what measures the modified Jollymoto have at the moment .. and they're relative fine for what I expect ( length for +12 000rpm, 10.5cm belly ) because the RG 500 stock portmaps are " fine " for that modified exhausts .
