Genuine Head gasket vs machined head with O rings?

#1 Post by yzr-replica » Thu Aug 27, 2015 5:02 pm

Hi
I phone Fowlers of Bristol for 2 Head gaskets and had them in stock for £98 Delivered!
Is this the going rate for these or do I need to keep phoning around?
As I am looking to tune the engine at different stages and the high price of the genuine head gaskets I was thinking of going down the route of having the heads machined and using O rings so I can also measure and get the squish gap spot on as well.
Can any one who has had this done give me there opinion as looking at all information available this seem a good way to go to me?
Also can anyone recommend a company who regularly carries out this machine work?
Many thanks J

Price is ok, i could get ~120€ (~£90) including shipping to UK if my Yamaha dealer is in a good mood

Checked the bill from my parts bought ~2 years ago: 68€ for both...
I should have bought 100 of them :smt013

So if someone needs yamaha parts - they will not get cheaper.

RD350 YPVS 31K 1985
Honda CBR 1000 RR SC57
Yamaha R1 RN04

Get some copper ones made up, by heating untill they glow you can reuse them.

Hello folks,
on my track bike I am using billet heads with removable domes and O-ring gaskets. Although we could only do 4 laps on the track last week, the O-rings worked fine without any leakage. I have plenty of cheap spare O-rings for them, the often I take off the heads the more I save!! :???:

I'm not 100% sure but I think those are custom one off machined by him and his machinist I don't think they are available for public but if they were or are that's pretty damn slick❤❤❤

Yes those heads are one-off custom made; I could have made additional sets but I doubt people would be willing to pay the price I´d need to ask. CNC Machining is very expensive here in Austria, and I dont own the CAD files so I cant go elsewhere.
