Titanium engine hardware

#1 Post by solo 2 » Sun Apr 20, 2014 12:41 pm

I bought the titanium engine studs/nuts for my bike and know some others here did the same. My question is what torque value did you use for the head nuts, I can't remember the exact torque I used though I know it was less than the book value. I'm wondering if this may be helping my head leak. What has anyone else used as torque values for these sets. Thanks.

I have used the same torque spec than standard nuts, but haven´t started the engine yet.

Thanks for the answer, I retorqued and my leak quit after the first ride, we'll see if it says dry.

Always torque to spec in right order, start over again and back off half a turn and retorque each nut. You will see it goes just bit more before it clicks out, do this and you don't have to retorque. Ever.

Yeah, I bought the entire set as I needed head studs anyway, good quality but the studs with the necked down center are solid. This wasn't an issue for me as I'm a machinist, not sure if it would affect cooling but did it just in case.

Oh, yeah, forgot about that thread. I love titanium hardware - but not 12-points.

I should ask if I can buy just the studs.

Would love to get some ti studs for my RZ350 engines, too. Could they be the same size and length as the RZ500 studs?
