rs500v2 hybrid

#1 Post by EYREY1 » Fri Dec 18, 2015 9:39 pm

a mate of mine bought a v-due injection bike 0 miles as he had a big collection of bimotas
but he wanted to ride it so we got some oil in it new battery coolant, petrol,2 stroke oil
pressed the button and it fired up , what a noise it sounded ace !
but when you reved it the throttle was like an on off switch ,it just felt awfull ,just like everyone said they were . lol
he was gutted but decided to drain it back dry and leave it in the conny with 0 miles and a load of other bimotas .
2 days later he picked me up and i looked in the back of the van and there was another v-due , with carbs but no lights
it turns out someone local was selling a v-due trofeo bike one of 26 built for a race series in europe or italy the bike was no 26 of 26
we got to his house and pulled it out of the van ,i sat on it and liked it straight away im 6ft 3 tall and it fit me perfect its a very tall bike
we started it and it sounded fantastic with bimota works race pipes on it ,
it came with a set of road fairings and paddock stands and a box .
i got the box and opend it and what was in it ? this

apparently while it was being used as a track bike the owner fell off and bike went into a gravel trap and as it ran no filters
sucked a stone in and seized it solid and bought another set of cases and gearbox
and these were the old ones
i asked what he was going to do with them and he said nothing ,could i use them
so he gave them to me ,little did i know everything that was there was knackerd like cranks clutch reeds only the gearbox was good and the cases ,

anyway we put a day time mot on the v-due and road fairings and he had what he wanted .
i had an rs250 mk1 frame in the garage with a v5 i was going to sell
so thought put the v due motor in that
i didnt know alex was building one or anything about the other that was built a few years ago
so it was time to make a plan ,at this stage i didnt even know if i could get any parts for the engine
i looked on ebay for a month and not 1 part came for sale in the world
i thought o shit what am i going to do
anyway i heard about a fella called Piero in italy who worked for bimota on the v due project
and he bought everything when they went bankrupt .
an email to him and i got a shock at the price of parts
all only available new .
so i had a full engine to buy in bits and a full rs250 to buy in bits

I can't even begin to imagine the cost of all that! Well done. It looks a great project.

first and hardest bit was to get it in the frame !
i do have a spare set of billet mounts if anyone wants to build one ?
piero has 20, 130 bhp engines at 7500 euro each

any way i built a bit of the engine roughly just for the mock up
pics
there is no going back now !!!!!!!!!!!

built some more of the engine up just to make sure that no covers touch any where
i know the water pump housing hits the frame and needs a scallop taking out of it
so doing that tomorrow ,
so did engine and sanded off the old brackets and welds today ,
it cleaned up ok
this is the angle it sits in the frame

it will be plastic coated once bike is dry built and it comes apart again ,

after months of buying parts and more parts and most of a mk1 rs250 in separate bits
i started to bolt it together so i could workout the position of the engine
pic shows r6 rear shock but i have had another 2 in since then .
Image
rear shock looks good ,and fits good
Image
Image
offered the engine up to the frame and worked out the chain run
and marked up where the brackets need to be welded to
take it apart and get the frame off for welding
