If it was a real RG500 I would not take it apart, I would restore it to original.
Its actually an RG400, the guy I got it from Put "RG500" decals on it. It looks good in the photo but is a big mess in person, some corrosion, the carbs were the worst internally I have seen. Green moldly crap in the carbs along with sticky brown goo everywhere. The throttle doesn't work properly, the bike won't run right even after the carb clean up. I think there is some internal engine damage. it sat for over 12 years, probably seized it and just left it to rot. Gas tank has a dent on it, so it has been down sometime in its life. The bodywork is in decent condition.
It will be redone in a streetfighter theme, painted in the Japanese Walter Wolf colors but in black instead of darkpurple.
I have some really cool plans for it. upgraded suspension front and rear. Handlebars will replace the clip ons, Yamaha MT-03 headlight, Rizoma components and Oberon performance Bar end LED's, Carrozzoria wheels, http://www.rg500.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 500cc sleeves so it will become an "RG500", one piece bodywork, his billet side cases, aluminum radiator and Lomas pipes to name a few.
My goal is to get the bike as close to 300 pounds dry (340 wet) and 100-110 hp at the wheel.
Right now I am having a custom made top triple clamp made to fit the 2006 R6 front end I will be using, and will see if my CNC guy will make me a custom billet kick starter.

Swingarm is at http://www.rgvsteve.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; getting fitted to the RG frame. Pictured is the Carrozzria wheel. 6" x 17". Swingarm and frame will be done in satin black, going for a dark look overall, lots of black, no chrome or shiney. The gold wheels and gold fork tubes will stand out against all the black.

Thanks rzatch, here is the matching R6 front wheel.
The rear wheel is a VFR800 wheel that Carrozaria made to fit on the VFR750 swingarm by custom making an adapter so the VFR800's single bolt would replace the 4 bolt pattern on the VFR750 hub.

R6 front forks with the LSL Urban Headlight (Yamaha MT-03). I looked at a lot of headlights and felt this one would go best with the RG. The outer fork tubes have scratches and marks on them so I will replace them with new ones. I will be using the the R6 calipers because they have the anodized gold inserts, they will match the wheels and forks. The headlight brackets will be anodized black.
I purchased the LSL Yamaha R6 top triple clamp kit which included the top triple and cables. Its a very well made and high quaility piece. The problem I have run into is the LSL top triple has the "bumps" or protrusions at the bottom of the clamp, which will hit the tank.
I am having a new clamp made and will be selling the LSL R6 top clamp kit.
