Does anyone else notice that prices are starting to get more sensible?

Is an often asked question on every 2 stroke forum , usually influenced by some ones watch list on eBay, eBay does not have the monopoly on classic bike sales and most of the real quality items never reach the likes of eBay.

eBay is even more so a snap shot in time than an proper auction, the sale of the RD500 at Specialist Bikes for £25,000 just before Christmas and the volume and price of their classic bikes shows there will always be people who are interested to own or wish to invest in classic cars or bikes , 2 or 4 stroke, it doesnt matter.

Snap shot below from a UK dealer news magazine I have delivered, I can post up details of the top 10 classic bikes sales every month , used to be much older bikes that made the big money headlines but our era Japanese bikes are edging in there now for sure.

Not sure that listing will qualify as sensible. It's at 12,100 Pounds and hasn't hit reserve yet. Every RG500 will eventually sell regardless of the price. If you want one you'll have to pay for it. Sensible is long gone.

$737 US for a ficken key blank? That is mental. Now every seller with that blank will expect the same price. Then someone in China will reproduce them for $1.

Fools and their money...

Someone just paid $950 US for this. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1985-1987-SUZUK ... _cvip=true

It really is silly. You can have this for $149 and no one will know the difference. In fact, as OEM plastic prices rise and availability decreases aftermarket plastic is becoming more widely accepted. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-upper-no ... rk:10:pf:0

That is the same seller with all of the uber pricey RZ500 parts on eBay. There is absolutely zero chance of any bargains now.

Buyers set prices. We all know that. They also contribute to more bikes being parted out as that seems to be where the money is with fools willing to pay whatever it takes for that last part they need.

And for what it's worth, I recently picked up a near perfect RG500 upper fairing from Japan for $142 US delivered to my door (it's going for paint Friday). Deals are there if you have the patience to seek them out.

Key word being, "fools".

Too embarrassed to say what I paid for my RZ500. I was a fool.

Didn't know enough, thought it was a fair deal, and hoped that the seller was being honest.

Clearly mistakes on my part. That was around 15 years ago. Know much more now. :smt045

I'm going to start hoarding key blanks.

I'm trying to imagine how much money a person would need to have in order for a $737 US key blank to seem like a good idea.

As if the bikes weren't pricey enough, then you need the paddock stands.

This is truly mental https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Suzuki-RG-500-g ... 1438.l2649
