RZ500 Buyers pack

#1 Post by anyoldiron » Wed Mar 08, 2017 7:54 pm

Hello...............and a question
.......................was there a ''buyers pack'' owners goodie bag what have you for the Canadian RZ500 when it was new? lm looking to buy a RZ that has a backpack, boots, jacket, helmets, large poster and a bunch off other stuff that comes with it.

Was this a set that came with every new RD- RZ500, or was it at the dealers discretion?

Cheers AOI

Not that I'm aware of. I suppose there may have been some promotional bits available at shows and such, but it is a likely a collection of items purchased individually by the owner. That isn't uncommon.

Are you talking about the bike in British Columbia?

Thanks for your input, apologies that wasn't very clear of me;

''Anyone here buy a RZ500 new from a dealer in Canada and remember if and or what 'extras' came with the bike'', or have a dealer package list or something first hand.

Thanks AOI

I bought my RZ350 new in Alberta and the RZ500 was there as well. I don't recall any sort of package available with the 500. You got the bike, owner's manual, and tool kit. Nothing more. As it was with all bikes back then.

As I suggested above, anything that is included with the bike you are looking at would have come separate from the initial bike purchase. There was plenty of promotional stuff available back then. Every now and then you still see period correct stuff showing up on eBay. There was an RZ500 paddock jacket discussed here a while back. Simply a promotional piece of that era, but not included with the bike itself. Yamaha Canada was far too cheap to give anything away.

When I bought my first new RZ500 back in 1985 at Racers Edge in Milton Ontario the only optional stuff for the RZ was the Solo Seat Option, factory manual, no clothing, no key chains, no extras of any sort that I know of... At that time, one had to put money down on these bikes prior to them arriving. Then the bikes were delayed getting to Canada, some tuning issue and if I remember correctly mine showed up in late June or early July of 85.

They were late to come in and when they did they were few at first. I sold them at Toronto Motor Bike on Yonge street and we got 2 at first. Needless to say they went immediately to the Bayview extension for a rip after PDI. Had fun and then I got one for myself. After the first summer there were plenty and they didn't move that well so they sold them for $3999.00. I remember they came jetted quite rich at first. Racers leaned them out a lot right away as I recall

And the 87 TZR was priced at $5899. There were still plenty of 500s available and then the 350s. The expensive TZR didn't sell well. Go figure.
