Oil Tank Level Switch
Different part number between models!!!
RZV
51x-85720-00
1GE Twin Tank
47x-85720-01
Is the single tank RZV a shorter version so you have approx 50% left in the single tank were as the Twin Tank 1GE maybe longer as you have the extra oil in the lower tank so the light comes on much later?
I have an RZV with the lower tank which I installed as I wanted one. I have a clear vent line from the lower tank to the upper tank vent which shows the level in the top tank. My oil light came on with about 50% left in the upper tank.

Re: Oil Tank Level Switch
The RZV tank is the exactly the same one used on the 1GE bikes. Same part #.
There should be no dimensional differences in the oil level indicators.
The fact that yours came on at 50% isn't surprising. They are essentially useless things that only serve to plug the hole in the tank. They cannot be relied upon for accuracy and if you rode until the light came on before adding oil you'd be lucky not to have an engine seizure. The tank will be empty but a little oil remaining inside the indicator will keep it from correctly sending the appropriate ground to the oil light. Keep the tank full. Add oil after every ride and forget about the useless indicator and oil light.

Re: Oil Tank Level Switch
The RZV500R sender is shorter and has only one air vent hole and one oil outlet hole, as the RZV didn't have the sub tank this sender will put the light on earlier than the 47X sender.
RZV500R Sender 51X-85720-00 (one air vent hole, one oil outlet hole)
RD/RZ500 Sender 47X-85720-00 (two air vent holes, two oil outlet holes)
Found this in my TSB collection

Re: Oil Tank Level Switch
Thanks for that Steve. I had no idea. I have several senders here and was under the impression all were the same since the RZ and RZV use the exact same large oil tank.
That warning is exactly why I say the probes are useless and riders should keep tanks full. Regardless of the orientation in the tank, there remains a risk of the light not coming on.

Re: Oil Tank Level Switch
RZs/RDs have two oil tanks, but RZVs only one.
Even if this one is the same, total amount of oil is different, so the different senders.
On RZ/RD even with upper tank empty, oil flow is coming from sub tank.

You are correct Philippe. For some reason I was looking at it backwards.
