47X AND 1GE WHAT THINGS ARE DIFFERENT ?

#1 Post by jackson.40 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 1:38 pm

****EDIT*****
The IGE bikes left the factory with welded clip on bars as per the 47X bikes.
The 1GE clip on was only available if you ordered the part from a Yamaha dealer,it never came with the 1GE bikes from new.

*****************************************************************************************

I keep coming across different parts between the two models so i just wanted to start a post where everyone could list any they have come across. Here is a photo of a new 1GE clip on (top)and new 47x clip on (bottom).

Wow, Steve - that's quite a difference... I did not know that. It appears as though the 1GE bar has a cast clamp section. I never noticed that before....

Of course we mustn't forget the 51X RZV version... it's all aluminum :smt045 but I digress from the 47X vs 1GE topic.... 8-)

Hi Bill,The 47x and 1ge both have the twin tank system but the 1ge main tank is green and transparent and the 47x is black.I think the coolant tank is green as well with the 47x tank being black.

Here is a good photo of the short 47x upper pipe baffle and the longer 1ge baffle.

Steve is correct - the earlier production models came with black plastic tanks for both oil and coolant, while the later production units were equipped with greenish-colored see-thru tanks. It's also interesting to note that the Canadian 52X and Aussie 53G RZ models retained the same 3-digit prefix throughout the 3 production runs, while the RD models were separated by the change in 47X and 1GE prefixes between the 1st and 2nd production runs.

There is the top yoke difference also.

On 1GE models, the top yoke has a round shape on the front which includes the ignition switch when assembled, whereas the 47X hasn't.

1GE top yoke pic to find.

Kalim - your pic of the 1GE does not appear to be an RD - I see what looks to be RZV clocks (note combo water temp/fuel gauge), and the forks/top yoke are definitely not original equipment.... although you're correct about the shrouded ignition switch on 1GE models....

Ho right, my mistake !

I took the picture from russel's topic named "1GE", and I didn't realized it is a RZV...
I didn't find another pic of a 1GE top yoke. To be updated !

Square and round exhausts?

#11 Post by Gary B » Sun Apr 20, 2008 10:21 am

I noticed this difference on the lower exhausts:

47X with a round end

Image

I can't see the part number on these but assume they are 1GE with square ends. I wonder why they did that?

You can tell it is Sunday, the weather is bad and I am bored!!! Cheers.

Just had a look at some 47x and 1ge airboxs .The 47x airbox(top) has a groove for a o ring but the 1ge(botom) has no o ring and just uses a seal.

My RZ is a 51X and must have been produced the same time as other model RD500's.
What years did different 500 models run?? Yamaha have told me mine is a '83 bike, but I've also heard Japan only made the RZV's in '84????
