Engine stone guard( not fairing mounted stone guard)
I was wondering if the engine stone guard was a standard fit on the 51X RZV500R?
I have in place the fairing stone guard on my 51X, but not the engine mounted guard ( which I see is 47X-1111x-00 Cover 1 cylinder) that I discovered existed today.
If so, anyone have one for sale?
Cheers

As far as i remember i was reading somewhere here that the 51X has no engine stone guard?!
If you are interested, i have a slightly better one (not paintet, but a little bit of rust and dirt).
Replating to original surface finish of some parts is planed at the beginning of 2015.

Not fitted to the rzv
http://www.rzv500r.net/Tech_docs/1GG-PL ... ge_05.html
I don't really know why they are there, maybe to protect the ypvs rods. Not sure but I wouldn't worry about one if I didn't have one.
Anyone know whos website is rzv500r.net?
I have used it alot and would like to thank the man sometime.
I used to think it was Steve Jackson but i am not so sure anymore.

Re: Engine stone guard( not fairing mounted stone guard)
My original owner RZV that I purchased with 3k kms in 1989 came with the same stone guard that the RZ5 was fitted with. Most likely an oversight on the microfiche.
The shield is designed to prevent pebbles or other road debris (tossed up from the front tire) from lodging in the power valve linkage.

If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

Maybe your RZV was from the second run they built? Or yes an oversight as you say.Rick Lance wrote:My original owner RZV that I purchased with 3k kms in 1989 came with the same stone guard that the RZ5 was fitted with. Most likely an oversight on the microfiche.

Anyway, look at the gallery on rzv500r.net. Who is Alan Ward? Is he the site owner?

Wow! I trust your observation on 6 RZV's more than my memory of 20 + years ago. I have changed my motor out several times and must not have noticed the status of the stone guard. I just know that I have had one on my motor for as long as I can remember. I wonder if they were purposely deleted in the interest of weight savings to make the RZV seem more exotic than the export bikes? Weight was certainly a sales point, being the first alloy frame'd Yamaha.

Have a look at 2:08 on this video

And having another look on mine, the studs are shorter than the picture from Bill's

Re: Engine stone guard( not fairing mounted stone guard)
I have one on my TDR250 but not my 500, never been an issue. To fit it correctly though you will have to remove the head nuts which means you should ideally fit a new head gasket. You can bodge it on though
