Hi
I have bought a second RD500 in bad condition to get parts from it.
While i was checking all parts i need, i saw this plate on the new RD (1GE, i think it was built ~1986 or 87, austrian model):
This is the RD i want to restore (1GE, 1985, unknown model, no austria specific parts):
Is this plate missing on my first RD? Or is this plate just mounted on some specific models like the austrian one?

Re: Identification Plate
It looks like the missing data plate on your original bike would go where the screws are located now.
I suspect that it was riveted , like the one on your second bike.
Maybe a previous owner removed it for painting the frame?
I have a Canadian model, and it has a decal with the info printed on it.
I wish I had the plate instead.
I hope you don't have trouble registering your bike with it missing.
Sincerely, Gary.

Re: Identification Plate
They look like screws but they are rivets
The paint is original, just the rear part of the frame is painted with a brush...
I have found another RD500 owner with a frame number near mine (both 1GE-0021XX) and he has also no plate.
History like mine, same dealer who sold it, same year of built (1985) and 1987 first registration in Austria.
But his RD is an Austrian model with the reflectors at the fork and rear fairing like my second.
I think i will search a company who is printig anodized signs and let them make a new one.
It looks like something is missing without this plate.
Registering will be no problem, the number in the steering stem, the engine number and the number in my papers are equal and i don`t have to show the bike in the office where i get my licence plate
The bike was registered in Austria all the time since 1988 till 2012 without a longer break than 4-5 months over winter.
