Remembering Burt
As many of you will know, Burt Reynolds died earlier this month. Those of us of a certain age group know his movies well and loved the cars he drove, wrecked, and made famous. I've had a few F bodies over the past 35 years. This one resides in my garage now. Today I took her out for a few photos and this week I'll dust off the Bandit DVDs and enjoy the movies while trying to forget that getting old sucks.

Correct on the year, 1979. No WS6. In fact, this car is the least optioned Trans Am I have ever seen.
1979 to 1981 were the same but 1979 was the last year for the 400 and 403 engines. 1980-81 saw only the 301 and 305 engines.
The engine in my car is a 1969 Oldsmobile 455 fitted with the big valve "C" heads. That was the most powerful combination Oldsmobile ever built. Hooker Super Competition headers, Edelbrock carb, intake, and cam. Modified ignition and so on. TH400 Transmission with shift kit. 3:42 Posi rear end. The engine just barely fits into the engine bay. Less than 1/2 inch clearance in some places. The sound the engine makes is incredible. The movement of the engine when you jam the throttle is almost violent. Lots of fun to drive and gets unbelievably horrible gas mileage.
The whole thing rides on genuine Centre Line wheels.
A previous owner has installed a sound system that would measure on the Richter Scale. I find it completely pointless and never use it as I prefer to hear the engine.

Fantastic, what a lovely piece of history to own and enjoy...and RIP Burt, he really was a legend..
