2 strokes aside, Your 88 FZR is hands down one of the best looking bikes of the entire 80s.
I had a 89 which was a 100% new model, but my friend had the same beautiful 88 as you. Just loved the graphics and the contours of the bodywork. The design team hit a home run..it was perfect.
Then in 91 Yamaha kinda screwed up the whole look, when they went all angular with everything, I just didn't like all the pointy edges. That 5 valve motor, was the liter bike motor of the 80s as well, a tourqe power house.
Your new RZ 500 is also painted with one of the best graphics ever layed down on a Japanese motorcycle, it's iconic.

Thanks :smt023

To make a short story long...

I've had the FZR since spring of 1989....bought it used with about 8-900 miles on it.
Original owner couldn't handle the riding position....traded it in for a Vmax.
In todays world the riding position is quite comfortable, even for an old guy like me....
In 86 I had a FJ1100 that I truly loved, but was totaled out while a friend was riding it.... :smt013
I bought my 82 Katana with the money the insurance company gave me (I got screwed... :smt010 )
But that just wasn't cutting it after a year or so.
Knowing the Magazine reports were saying the FZR was the baddest bike available at the time, and my long term love of Yamaha....
.....there was no other choice. I saw this in the dealership and knew I it was the one for me.
The colors did it to me.....Blue is my favorite color....plus it looked so advanced compared to the GSXR at that time.

The bike put me down hard years ago and I still have metal in me from it....the bike survived it better than me.
Stripped down and used as a drag bike for a few years....then left to collect dust for nearly 2 decades more.
But I cleaned it up a couple years ago, and it runs as strong as it did on the track still

The previous project only seems to get finished, when I have a new project sitting on the table waiting for me.

In all honesty the last thing I need is another bike to get road worthy again....but who can say no to a RZV... :smt007

Thanks guys :smt023
The carpet isn't really that clean, but if I'm doing anything that could cause something to leak out....
....I do it over the cement, or put some plastic sheeting under it.
Same kind of plastic sheeting I used under the carpet to hold down any condensation. The cement is pretty thick
but also has a type of foam insulation under the cement to hold in heat and keep out condensation to.
Seems to be working pretty good so far. I hate seeing things rust as they sit quietly.....indoors

The title does say members rides......and since I can't show first hand pics of my RZV yet, I'll show a few of the bikes that
got me to the point of RZV ownership. :smt003
Most of them were unwanted rejects when I found them.....projects I had to save

The two stroke that got me hooked back in 85...my RZ350...the Spec II stage 3 still screams just as hard today as it did 30 years ago
Image

My 86 GSXR1100 and 90 RGV250SP......or VJ22FL as I call it....few of these left completely intact in the world
Image

78 SR500 I completely went through and sportified without turning into a cafe racer....built for my wife
Image

$400 Craigslist partsbike....I had to save after hearing it run after a 25 year abandonment in the desert.....this one took a LOT of work
Image

1979 CBX that started out as a bare frame and a empty crankcase found in a barn attic.......Yea, this took some work too
Image

Me and the wife at the first annual Chicago Motoblot on the GT750J
Image

My VJ23 I bought when I had given up on owning a 500....I love this one... :smt007

I'm a bit of a time warp victim . I have experiences with most of your rides and they bring back Kodak moments for me. I had an R5K too, also about 6 other 250's once myself. A Kawi SX650 as well, now that's a sport! Got a 1995 XP800 Limited release still. VJ23 is lovely. Here is my VJ22 based RGV500 wearing Cleverwolf VJ23 bodywork.

The RGV-500 looks great, and those front calipers look like a Japan only item...? :smt023
Still may consider a RG400/500 based engine in my VJ22N project bike...depends on how the economy treats me the next year or two.
I used a RF600 front wheel on my VJ22SP as they are a simple bolt on 3.5 instead of the usual 3.0.....That way I can run 120/160 tires
I had a SX650 back in 88.....loved it and built it up after the oil pump shaft snapped... :smt013
The 2010 SX-R800 standup I have now, will spit you off as fast as a CR500 if you don't pay 110% attention all the time...but damn it's good clean 2 stroke fun :smt003

Love to try that kind of power in a standup! My XP800 being 110hp is a blast being so small it's like a Kart on water! I have an rg400 project I am considering selling as I will likely not get to it for years. I have only let a few friends know about it so far, I like hoarding anyway

My wifes daughter had a Ski Doo two stroke jetski, that we took out a few times to go tubing....
Damn, I've never had my arms stretched out so far as I did trying to hang onto that tube when she took those sharp turns...
If your in no hurry to unload a 400 just yet that's good, as I will be burning up any spare cash on the RZV....but when that's done
It will be a RGV400/500 or a GT/TR750 project....as my last bike to build.
Then all I'll worry about is keeping everything running, and maybe get to ride more than wrench :smt003
