Hello together,
I´m new in this community. I´m from Germany and normally a 3XV rider.
Last year I bought a RD500 (1GE) with a front crash. I thought it would be an upgrade of power to my TZR with the TZ engine. According to the last owner is the engine tuned. I checked the outlet and the cylinder head, they are modified and the other ports look also modified. The cylinders have a marking “MPT”. But I´m a bit disappointed. The subjective feeling is, that my 250 is running better.

I bought the bike in the Netherlands, it is coming originally from Austria. Frame number is 1GE002216. Frame modification, exhaust, fork (R1) and wing arm (GSXR) are looking like this bike. The air box in carbon style painted. Maybe it is this bike or from the same tuner.

Does anybody knows this bike and is having details?
Thanks in advance.
Regard Timo

Beautiful bike. It does look familiar. Hopefully someone here has some information about it.

If the bike was tuned for a different altitude and temperature range that may account for the sluggish performance. Your best bet would be to put the bike on a dyno and tune it properly for your needs.

Only to make sure, the picture displays a picture of a bike that could be the one I bought.
Yes, sure I will try to go to a dyno for final setting.
Only one problem. In my area the dyno owners do not like to 2stroke at their test bench caused of the smoke.
I had the topic already with my 250.

Attached are Pictures of my bike, not finished, but running.

Bear in mind your tz engined tzr is likely making over 70 hp ? and weighs maybe 135kg ?
A lightly tuned RD500 with GOOD modern pipes may make 90hp and weigh, i would guess looking at the spec of your bike, close to 180kg.
They are not fast or light bikes, they're 30 year old classics.

The RD is having fully dressed 185kg.

I can say that the de-restricted stock 250's are almost as fast as an RZ500 anyway let alone one with a TZ engine! Friends 3ma with pipes and my NSRsp are not much slower. Your RZ is ported with pipes but stock carbs. Your 250 is a TZ so nothing surprising here. Could be the RZ needs a set of tm28's?

Welcome in...Bike does look very purposeful, I like that a lot...as said, they are not very fast compared to more focused strokers but im sure there is more to be had from it when you do find somewhere suitable to have it set up.

Very nice Biaggi tribute?

There are very few " performance " categories that a RZ 500 would have over even a standard tuned TZ250 such as yours let alone a kit fitted machine. Low speed acceleration likley being the only advantage.

Its all relative how you want to look at it,
My tuned RZ350 of yesteryear being a substantially quicker & superior handing machine compared a average stock RZ500 , but only at standstill to 100 mph, realisticlly speeds over 90 mph the 500 had a noticeable advantage , Its a great bike..just diffrent. When I moved up to 750cc & liter bikes..all RZs felt just like mopeds, road speeds of but if we look at it this way were not ever going to enjoy what she has to offer.
But even stock w pipes and basics just losing 60-100lbs of the massive weight of a 80s RZ w a conversion makes for a fun exiting motorcycle..it was designed almost 40 years ago..that 4 decades time for kids to grandkids.

Perhaps you need fine tuning, but if you tune it and it feels the same, dont fret as a fellow motor head, you likley understand you can have fun on a motorcycle of any displacement..if one doesnt agree with that, then I feel there missing the entire point of having fun. There all fast enough to get you killed real quickly..thats thrilling right thete.
And a 4 cylinder 2 stroke has alot of charisma, its intended as a street bike..sure we all exploit that..but...

IMO there best just to be ejoyed ! :smt003 ...not compared.

MPT = Minne Postma Tuning, look here:

He did the revision of my RZ500.

Sure I understand your input.
My intention to buy a RD500 was to have an upgrade of power for the racetrack and to have something special on the road.
In the moment I´m focused to prepare it for the road legalization. Difficult in Germany with the “TÜV”. Bring me a lot of headache.
After this I will go to the engine set-up for more power and a ridable engine character.
And also at a new chassis. I looked for an easy way. TZR 3MA frame looks for me too short to place the V4 without big modification. KR1 was to narrow. To use the Aprilia or RGV 250 frame is against my nature. I decide to use FZR 400 frame. I like its style and complete rear end (including mounting of the shock absorber is only bolted). But this will take time.

Thanks for your input.
But back to my question, does anybody have information about my bike?

Thanks

Thanks a lot, great!!!!!
If I compare the power valve, they look same modified.
Are you happy with engine power?

Back in the mid 90's my 350 was 2s faster than my 500 on the track in Oschersleben.
(Same driver, same tires, similar brake/fork/rim combo).

If you're coming from a fast 250, the 500 is a heavy piece of sh...

Mine is a bog standard one, except for the shape of the combustion chamber.

Minne can do a good job on making 2 strokes faster, his TZR250 2 ma runs great!

I've talked to Minne about the performance of this bike: The biggest issue on your bike were the carbs, cloaking the jets, especially the air jets. Clean them up and you could be surprised.
