My KR1 and good friends KR1 R

#1 Post by podman » Sun Jun 26, 2016 4:17 pm

Some pics of my and my good friends recently rebuilt/restored KR1 and his very rare KR1-R (a bit like an "SP" version of an NSR/TZR250)

Both bikes had some dyno set up of recent and really fly, the way they turn, brake and dance around is just amazing.

The bores on both are nicasil plated , Yes, I believe 35mm carbs on the "R" , different (heavily ported) barrels along with a close ratio box, it also has different wheels vs the "S".

My friends "R" has 11BHP over my original model(both bikes dyno'd and set up on the same afternoon, by the same operator) but as he is 2-3 stone heavier than me, the bikes seem pretty much neck and neck. Both great fun to ride.

KR1 hadnt turned a wheel in 6 months and I hadnt laid a spanner on it over Winter but she fired up 3rd kick, for me no better riding experience on these roads on the 250s , headed out with my mate on his gorgeous RGV who also owns the KR1R above, what a great day to be out and about.

RGV is a small machine but the KR is tiny even compared to that..

A dealer in a nearby county had a great open day today.

The Isle of Man & NW200 road racer James Hiller took a shine to the KR's.

Freddie Spencer was present and listening to him talking about the late 70's/early 80s going from racing the NR500 to his championship winning NS500's was a joy.

My mate took the seat hump from his NS400 for Freddie to sign, which he did no problem, what a gent and what a day out.

Perfect way to spend a spring day.

Both bikes are beautiful, but that KR1R really is something special.
