To access the battery, remove the seat and the left rear panel. Quite easily done. Four screws in total if I remember correctly.

I changed to a 44T rear sprocket many years ago, and have never gone back.

Thanks!

I can understand that You changed to a bigger sprocket! 44T is a big change from 38T though. Maybe I will go for 41 or 42?

Why did you go for 44T? Wheelies?

Yeah, it's only for the fun factor, which I guess is why we buy these bikes to begin with.
Personally I think it fits the bikes characteristics quite well, but I seldom travels any real distances on the highways.

With that gearing and a Stan Stephens tuned engine, I managed to scare myself every spring when it was time to put the bike on the road again. No other bike that I've ridden has even come close to that feeling.

Soon time to fix that engine again I think.

Fantastic to hear Marsipulami! I fully agree.

I guess I have to look for a bigger rear sprocket immediately.

How do I find a bigger rear sprocket then? Is there bigger ones for the RD, or does some other bikes sprockets fit?

I've been buying mine from addemoto.se since the mid 90s.
They are close by where I live and have reasonable prices.
Not sure which bike the 44T are meant for originally.

Give them a call.

I will.
I think 24MX have them too, when I think of it. Bought some parts for my 350 there.

1300 fun km so far. I just love riding my RD!
Only problem so far has been loss of fuel pressure on two different occasions.
Swithching over to reserve restored the fuel flow, then switching back to normal and it ran good again. Fuel level was appr. 50 % both times.

Something with the fuel cock?

Could be the petcock yes.. or could be a problem with the cap breathing. You can loosen the fuel cap to see if the problem goes away.
If not, it could be a blockage in the petcock, or an issue with the vacuum diaphragm.. (I can't remember if the 500 uses vacuum)

With a little help from my son, and my best friend, I had all my twostrokes on the road today. At the same time. All of them ran perfect for the whole 120 km trip!
