I had no idea that the chain protector that I listed on ebay was not genuine until after the auction ended and I started packing it to ship to the winning bidder.
It was among a box of NOS Yamaha parts that I had bought as a job lot and I just presumed it was a Yamaha item because everything else was, but it is made from plastic not rubber as with the original Yamaha part.
After finding this thread I have now cancelled the ebay transaction and refunded the winning bidder in full.
An easy mistake to make unless you know the difference. I bid on that and after doing so looked closer and discovered it wasn't OEM. You could see the machining marks and I thought it looked similar to those available here. I think the plastic one is a superior product. I have 4 OEM protectors here and all show wear. I bought 2 of the plastic ones from goassmass and am awaiting delivery

I think the one I have has been made on a 3D printer - the ridges along its length appear to be part of the manufacturing process rather than machining.

That is good of you, most people would have thought it was a genuine part. I was surprised it didn't make more money as it's just a rare part.

Relist it on Ebay as a reproduction part, I am sure it will sell for a good price.

As soon as ebay offer reduced seller fees again I'll put it back on.
I hate the idea of giving 10% of whatever I sell away in fees :)

I only offer my chain protector via FORUM, not on ebay.
It's a real price (40.-- € + shipping) and every buyer worldwide contented up to now.
I prepaired my own RD 500 in the year 2008 with the same part in the same quality. It's perfekt.

Hi Hans- I would like to buy one of your chain guard swingarm protectors - however I notice that the message history indicates that they are sold out.
Is there any chance that another batch can be prepared (I will buy 2 if that is necessary)?
I can be contacted on murray.smith@bluescope.com
Thanks in anticipation.
Murray
