Vin's Seat Unit

#1 Post by Vin » Sun May 08, 2011 11:23 am

Hi Guy's,

I have a chance to get a mold done of my seat unit, now as you all know it will mean an outlay of my own money initially so I need to assess who would be interested to see if it is viable or not?

I only have approx a two week window to get this done so if you are definitely interested please pm me as soon as poss!

The seat unit is a one piece item and I have mine fitted by one screw on the top rear of the unit and two more underneath the seat.

Not sure on price so maybe someone could give me an idea? obviously numbers will determine this also!

Here is a picture of the seat unit on my bike

I know this is a very late reply as I haven't been on here in quite a while but if your still thinking of making copies of your seat I'm in.

Cheers,
Alex

Sorry Alex but I had no interest other than yourself so unfortunately it is a no go as it wouldn't be financially viable!

I wasn't offering to do this to make money just to cover the costs, as just making the mold I have been quoted £300 then obviously the cost per seat unit!

If thing's change I will let you know!

Things have moved on with my project and I still may be in a position to do a mold over the winter?

I'm not sure if the 2 week time frame put people off or not but here is the offer again and it is looking like £150 per seat unit or maybe a bit less depending on quantities and will be made over the winter months.

I need to know guy's if any interest and if the price is set right so please feel free to comment if interested or not to see if this is a possible goer?

Vin

If you do make a mould, you should include the bits you cut off (just like the standard exhaust covers, but with the passenger cover also moulded in). People could then cut it to any shape they wanted.

Just my 2 cents worth...

P.S. Sorry Vin, I don't need one at the moment

I have had a few people over the last few months contact me regarding my seat unit.

I can still get the seat done if I get enough people and will need a deposit off those truly interested up front, the amount being dependant on how many is interested really, the seat unit will be a solid unit as I have vents on the top of mine for the top end cans, so you have the choice on putting these vents in or not.

I have been quoted £300 for a mould plus then obviously a cost per unit and this depends on the quantity?

If anyone knows of a cheaper/better source for the mould and fibre glass work then I would be happy to look into it?

I will be out of pocket due to the fact I will need to re-paint my original seat unit but to have the chance of a spare and hold the mould will be worth all the hassle.

If interested then please contact me and I'll get a list going?

Sorry to the few I had to turn down previously but thought I would give this one last go!

Hi Vin

Any idea how it would look with standard exhausts, does it bolt to the standard rear subframe?

Are the seat pads and back rest easy to get hold of?

Cheers

Not sure regarding standard exhausts mate but a single seat will need to be made and the the standard bum pad is used.

The unit bolts underneath the seat and on the top at the rear, I will take some pictures over the next few days.

This is how my seat unit secures but obviously this can be changed for individual builds and ideas.

The rear has one bolt on top, not sure how the rear subframe changes from standard at this point if any but hopefully the picture will show, the front secures under the single seat by two bolts that tighten onto a block and plate that clamps the seat unit to the underside of the top rails of the sub frame.

Hope the pictures make it clear?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your reply mate and thanks for the interest, however this will only fly if I get enough people interested so just gathering interest at the moment but it's gone a little quite again to be honest?
