Rear shock

Hi,Has anyone stripped a rear shock on a rd500 ?.I am restoring a rd500 and i am trying to tidy up the rear shock.Just getting the spring off would help.Thanks Steve

The spring retainer on the rod end has a ring under it that must be removed. Can get to it with normal means. Back the spring preload adjusted all the way loose and then use some sort of tool to compress the springs enough to move the retainer off of the rod end. That will expose the ring. Pry it off the rod end. Slide the retainer off the rod end. Remove spring. Look at pile of useless parts and say "F#$K!".<p>You may complete the operation by taking it all to a shock rebuilder as the other post suggested or throwing it all in the bin as most do...
