Re: water in carbs
I bought an RG500 that had been laid up for the best part of 10 years, on taking the air filter tubes off, I found the left side lower carb had coolant in it. On subsequent engine stripdown , I found the O ring that sits between the crank cases was misaligned. I guess the coolant found it's way thro...

Re: Right hand crank bearings
Whilst these failures are documented, I would suggest that not a common occurrence. You can't plan or do anything to really avoid the bearing failure, so just enjoy the bike as it is. 74k kms is going some.! Well done! I can't take the credit for the bike's mileage - I bought it early this year fro...

Right hand crank bearings
Reading the latest Classic Motorcycle Mechanics today ( Oct.2016 issue ) has left me concerned as to what state my crank bearings are in. The article on pages 82 / 83, by Stan Stephens, says that usually between 21,000 and 23,000 miles the right hand main bearings crack around the circlip groove. My...

Battery choice
Sorry if this has been covered before.... I bought my RG500 from Germany a couple of months ago. It came with 2 of these batteries fitted ( linked together ) : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6V-4AH-Replacement-BATTERY-for-Thomas-the-Tank-Engine-Peg-Perego-/161216323306?hash=item25893ddeea" onclick=&...

Re: Shipping of an exhaust system from the USA to Canada?
It's the same here in the UK. Parts shipped from the US via UPS ( or Fed Ex ) always have customs charges applied. If the package comes via USPS to the UK and is then handled by the UK post office ( Royal Mail ), it's 50 / 50 whether it gets charged. Another bugbear for us here is the current ebay g...

Re: Frame / engine numbers different ?
Thanks for the welcome guys . Speed Freak, I think the previous owner must have fitted a 47X engine, which I guess is from 1984 ? He told me he bought the bike new in 1984, but looking at the paperwork he gave me, it is listed as first registered in 1985. I've tried to post some pics, I click on &qu...

Frame / engine numbers different ?
Hello, I'm new to RD500's, I've always had older 2 strokes, Kawi H1's, GT750's,etc. but thought I'd try something "newer ". So I've bought a 1984 bike, frame is 1GE000448, engine is 47X000449. :smt086 Cards on the table, I know next to nothing on these bikes. Question.. should frame / engi...
