Re: Turfrey Pipes
To bring this back on topic....... Turns out that the Turfrey pipes are about 1cm smaller overall width (diameter not circumference) for the fattest segment compared to Jolly Motto. I assume they are for higher RPM, but what do I know? Approximate measurements. Brian Turfey 9cm Jolly moto 10cm JL cm...

Re: 180 rear tire with 3xv swinger?
Mine's a YZR rep, so the wide rubber is part of the look. The build is still in progress, so haven't ridden it yet. However, it's got a 3MA frame, so 1 degree less rake than stock RD500, raised rear and 60 profile front tyre means it should turn quick enough...

Re: 180 rear tire with 3xv swinger?
Yep, have done exactly that. Used a R6 fitment 5.5” carbon BST wheel with 180 rear tyre. Had to slim down the cush drive a little, but it does fit.

Re: RD500 in a TZR250 3MA Frame
From a practical standpoint, what are the issues if any, surrounding front cylinder clearance around the radiator and front wheel? I want to fit shotgun lower pipes so is there a preferred swing arm with the bracing on top rather than underneath? Is it worth pushing beyond a 160 back tyre? I’ve got...

Re: Jumping out of 1st gear and re engages
Carefully check the ‘dogs’ on the 1st gear as if rounded can cause this issue.
Also check the selector drum as any slight wear in the tracks can mean proper engagement doesn’t happen.
Good luck.....

Re: Picked up an 86 RZ500S!
You would be wise to strip completely to at least replace the crank seals and have a good look at everything else.
With a bike as rare as this, you don’t want to leave anything to chance.
Just imagine having to strip it again later on if something is amiss.....

No gasket, just use the same Yamabond or Threebond sealant, as you use between the crankcase halves.

Re: Reliability
Just remember, back in the day these were sold from dealer showrooms with full warranty. The Japanese, being as they are would not accept any ‘lemons’. Sure, they can be troublesome, but not really any more so, than any other 2 strokes. My RD500 has 42k miles on the clock. Ok it has been rebored onc...

Re: Side Stand
I fitted one to my YZR replica, as it is one of my pet hates when bikes lean over too far, which is common with increased rear ride height. However, I modified the stock one by welding a longer top piece (the clevis end, before it goes to the ‘I’ beam section) on. Not sure of a stock Yamaha one that...

OEM rear reflector part number....?
Hi, can’t seem to find the rear reflector on the parts lists....
Anybody know the part number for a UK spec standard rear reflector?
Thanks!
