Re: First Outing for many years - What does this tell me?
I realise it's not directly related to the question being asked by the OP, however, I am intrigued on why no one has suggested that crankcase seals could be an issue after such a long period of no use. I raise the point as my bike has been laid up for about 12 months and interested to hear if the t...

Re: Carbs wont stop pi$$ing out fuel..........
4) In case of old valves and valve seats - corrosion and fuel components which will not evaporate. Forget to ultrasonic clean them, it will not help. Polish the parts with an ear tip and metal polish. The brass parts have to be shiny and smooth. Same with the sliding faces of the needle. Never used...

Re: YZ125 reed valve modify
I did that some time ago, it was quite easy. Never been sure about the gains, if any though. Question: is there a benefit (and any correlated downside) in removing the metal "stops"? I left mine in.

Re: Anodizing RZV Frame?
oops, just noticed how old the thread is... oh well, this is my 2 c anyway. How long would this rot issue take to create critical damage? I had my RZV frame dipped and re-anodised two years ago (maybe longer, actually) and haven't had it implode thus far, albeit having traveled only about 1500Km wit...

Re: Modifying... modifying
Had a chance to take a few more measurements today. The front combustion chambers volume is 13cc. @Matty, I am not sure about the TSI spec, reading TSI#3 it says 113 +/- 0.3cc, which I interpreted as meaning 11.3cc. The current thickness of the head measured between the top of the plug hole and the ...
Re: fuel leak
Leaking needle valve can be fixed by polishing the sliding surfaces of the needle seat and the needle. Just needs some ear cleaners and a bit of polishing paste, costs nearly nothing and worked several times without replacing the expensive parts. Agree 100%, used Keiser and original parts, needle v...

Re: RZ500: Rebuild phase 1
Really like that tone of gold you used on the rims.
And the bodywork has that great still wet look to it.
I paid a bomb to get all the front fairing painted by a good painter, but he couldn't get that deep finish.
Looks really good.

Re: Modifying... modifying
This is boiling my brain. I've taken the front head off (the rear one is at the machine shop). The measure from top of spark plug hole to mating surface is 25.18mm. In theory that gives me up to 2.06mm to play according to the TSI spec. General consensus is that it's unwise to go as thin as 23.2mm (...

Re: Modifying... modifying
Hello everybody, I would be really grateful for some feedback. I measured the gap between squish band and piston top using the solder wire method on the two front cylinders. It's over 2.2mm. I took the measurement 4 times, so I am assuming it's reasonably accurate. I recall reading somewhere it had...

Re: Modifying... modifying
After much research on the board and generous help from a couple of members herein, I have taken the plunge and made some mods. My motor has been rebuilt with 2 sizes up new genuine pistons. The rest is/was all standard, oh, except for the fibreglass YZ80 reeds. It went well for about 1000K's, afte...

Re: Removing lower heads
Great news, thanks. I am not sure yet if I will remove it. An inspection through the exhaust port revealed a healthy looking barrel in the small area I can see opposite. Still thinking about if to remove it or not.

Re: Notes on changing from BR9HS to BR8HS
Here are the two rear barrels and pistons. It doesn't look like they are too damaged. This week I will try getting to the machine shop for them to look at and see what needs to be done and replaced. http://s1318.photobucket.com/user/s4oz/slideshow/Rear%20Barrel%20March%202016" onclick="win...

Removing lower heads
In order to remove the lower head, is it essential to remove the radiator, or will the head slip off the studs without the radiator interfering?
Thanks
Stefan
