Pistons with Windows need richer jetting and richer jetting needs more ignition advance , it makes sence now ?
Tzrs with no Windows are perfect since the ignition is all same for all the 4 pots

Re: Ducati dry clutch conversion for RZ500
Well said , better buy another bike for ur collection then to destroy an iconic motor like the rz/rd I ve seen many projects like the one of ur Dreams, never was it reliable or fun to drive , 100 hp is a realistic number for this bike . Enjoy now it still is possible , the electric era is coming soo...

But i think they re harder to find also

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
Couple of questions on the "offset theories". Firstly, why does it affect port timing when this is controlled by each piston going up and down its respective barrel and the inlet arrangements are different between the banks anyway. Secondly, my cranks have both been rebuilt using pattern ...

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
Does a crankshaft from a 500 have the same balance factor as a crank from tzr250? The balance shaft has 2 weights perpendicular, 90 degrees to the crank its geared to, its only correcting 1 crank not the pair together. Is that correct? In my earlier post I said I want to change from 180 firing orde...

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
There s a misunderstanding ,there s crankangle (as a whole)and there s cylinderangle ,in the ideal world these should be in phase ...Wright? Most of us asume , there went something wrong in the multiple gearing ?or the 2 axisses crank vs cilinder angle are out of phase ? But wich one is out? For a r...

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
With the offset key ,ignitiontiming and porttiming is corrected and opposing rotating force from the cranks reduced.
The heat in the rear bank is lower as are the vibrations

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
The rear crank has a delay ,but comes to tdc when the lower crank is already doing it s downstroke ,this results in more advance in ignitiontiming on the rear barrels because the ignition is already happened on the front crank and Fired all the coils same time (wasted spark) So if the advance is 26°...

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
Yeah Bill ,am on ur side about the cranktiming ,just wonder why Lance is nt ,you can see with the bare eye there s an issue Porttiming is out of sync ,dito for the ignitiontiming But i did nt find where the problem comes from ,crankcases?crankgears? Did u find this in every engine?or only the early ...

Re: Rear Crank Timing out 2.5 Degrees
I see the rd500 engine as an tandem parallel twin not as a v engine dito for the rg500 ,both has firing order 180°
The rd500 has 50° lay-out, it does nt matter much if you change it to 52,5°
I think Lance was Wright about the lay-out coz he considder the rd500 being a v engine

Thanks for the head ups on efi Martin
I run powerjets on almost every bike now ,don t understand the people that disconnect the solenoids for extra fine tuning ,they run cleaner and better with them ,The air jet influences the largest area from the carb
